I checked out this '86 911 Targa today. Full write-up to come later, but at least here's a couple pics in the meantime.

Very nice, I'll be looking for that write up! I'd have done black wheels, or put it on the list though.

I'm pretty sure they began their lives painted black and were painted red at some point down the line. Then again, Porsche has offered various body colored wheel options over the years.

Wow you went from "damn I need this car" to ^this^ in like a day. Nice.

This was a combo trip. Same dealer had an '01 Boxster S. I drove both.
There was another place that had an '86 944 Turbo that I also wanted to try but that car was in the process of being bought today when I called them. I'm going to check in with them in a few days to see if the sale actually went thru.
Not sure that I've found anything yet that I like as much as my 135is. So far that includes an '08 M3 vert, '03 Corvette Z51 vert, and these 2 Porsches.
This process is actually giving me a new appreciation for the 135is. I mean, I already liked it a lot, that's why I leased it in the first place. But yeah. Need to find another 944 Turbo to try. I've always liked them on paper.

Every sports car looks awesome on paper! Then I drove the Z4. Never again.

I've driven a couple first gen Z4s several years ago. One was I think a 2.5i and the other was a 3.0si with sport package. The first was meh, the second was pretty good actually.
Which reminds me, I still need to track down a Z4 M somewhere.

I drove a brand new 35i with 12 miles on it. Seriously the brakes were so numb it scared me. It sounded meh and wasn't nearly as fast as the M235i. And it was $60k. Nope.
I need to drive a Z4 M.

The 2nd gen flippy hard top Z4 is apprently much more of a GT than the 1st gen.
Not surprising that the M235i felt quicker than the Z4 35i. They weigh pretty much exactly the same but the M235i has an extra 20 hp.
(Most versions of the N55 including the Z4 35i are 300 hp. Exceptions are the Z4 35is with 335 hp, M235i/135is with 320 hp, and 640i/740i with 315 hp.)
